I can still remember driving through the streets of Torrance, California overwhelmed by God's calling.
While the idea of planting a church in Torrance was exhilarating, it also exposed the great, mysterious nature of God's decision making process. I couldn't wrap my mind around why God would call me to this task. I was a 39 years old associate pastor/youth pastor with no senior pastor experience. It would have made much more sense, in my mind, for God to call or send a wiser and more established pastor to begin this work.
But God reminded me this truth: "God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God." (1 Cor. 1:27-29)
Joy filled my heart and soul as I realized that the pressure was not on my shoulders, but on God's. God didn't need me to be wiser and more established. He only needed me to obey and to be crazy enough to trust Him, rather than in myself.
God wants the credit for what has taken place here at Connection Point. He wants the credit for what will take place in the future. Verse 29 says, "So that no human being might boast in the presence of God." God loves to reveal His power and glory through us. He wants us to be a part of His plans. Sometimes we think too highly of our contribution in following God's plan.
As we look into future of Connection Point, let's remember that God is looking for those who are willing to step out in faith and trust Him. Connection Point is a group of ordinary people who believe God can do anything with nothing and enjoy watching Him do so.
To God alone be all glory, honor and praise, in this church and the churches throughout this city.
